Theobroma cacao

Ghanaian cacao begins under shade, inside a ridged pod. Fermentation and drying then turn a fresh seed into the aromatic foundation of chocolate.

01

Provenance

Cacao arrived in the Gold Coast from the Americas through a layered nineteenth-century history. Its rapid adoption by African farmers transformed Ghana’s agricultural economy.

A Ghana origin speaks to more than national borders. Region, variety, fermentation practice, drying weather and storage all shape the final character.

02

Why it matters

Commodity systems often hide the agricultural judgement inside cacao. A provenance-led approach restores visibility to the work between ripe pod and export-ready bean.

This profile describes the wider origin and crop. It does not represent certification or a named supplier relationship.
